When the megahertz matter, the Raspberry Pi 3 B+ processor is clocked at 1.4 GHz. Its network interfaces are accelerated and it also has Power over Ethernet support.

Your projects and designs are only limited by your knowledge and imagination.

Automate your home or use this tiny computer to create:

  • a robot with Wi-Fi control and/or computer vision
  • a game console emulator
  • a home weather station
  • a security system with face recognition

This computer the size of a creditcard has the usual PC components on-board: a processor, RAM, HDMI connector, composite output, USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth.

The main advantage of the Raspberry Pi is 40 general-purpose input/output pins (GPIO). You can connect peripherals to them to interact with the outside world; actuators, sensors, and anything that works on electricity.

The standard operating system for Raspberry Pi is Linux. It is installed on the microSD card which is in a special slot on the board. If you don’t know Linux, don’t be scared. This computer is a great opportunity to learn. Don’t worry about losing data or screwing up, the image on the SD card can be restored in minutes, then you can boldly continue your experiments!

Board Version

The Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ is an upgraded version of the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B.

A 64-bit four-core ARM Cortex-A53 processor is overclocked from 1.2 GHz to 1.4 GHz. There are onboard upgraded wireless interfaces Wi-Fi 802.11n and Bluetooth 4.2 / LE.

In addition, the processor has ARMv53 architecture which means you can use your favorite operating system: Debian Wheezy, Ubuntu Mate, Fedora Remix, and even MS Windows 10 IoT.

The Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ has an allocated 1 GB of RAM, but this memory is shared with the graphics subsystem. The dual-core graphics processor, VideoCore IV®, supports the standards OpenGL ES 2.0, OpenVG, MPEG-2, VC-1 and is capable of encoding, decoding and outputing Full HD video (1080p, 30 FPS, H.264 High-Profile).

Connection Peripherals

To connect a monitor or TV use composite video output or a HDMI connector. Resolution ranges from 640 × 350 (EGA) to 1920 × 1200 (WUXGA) for HDMI. Composite output operates in PAL and NTSC formats.

Speakers or headphones are connected via a standard 3.5 mm jack or transmitted via HDMI.

Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ provides 4 USB ports connected by an internal hub. You can use them to connect a keyboard and mouse.

To save CPU resources, the Raspberry Pi offers standard plug-in connections through 15-pin slots:

  • CSI-2 - to connect to a camera via the MIPI interface
  • DSI - to connect to a standard display

The following are available as low-level interfaces:

  • 40 generic I/O ports
  • UART (Serial)
  • I²C / TWI
  • SPI with a selector for two devices
  • Power pins: 3.3 V, 5 V, and ground

For communication on the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ there is an ethernet connection (10/100/1000 Mbit with output to the standard 8P8C (RJ45) socket), Wi-Fi (802.11n), and Bluetooth (4.2).

Power to the Raspberry Pi 3 is provided by a 5-volt adapter via micro-USB connector or power pins. We recommend using a power source with a current of at least 2.4 A to be able to connect more power-consuming devices to the USB ports.

There is no power switch on the board. To turn on the computer just plug the power cable. To shut it down use the functions within the operating system.

The board is 85 × 54 mm. USB ports, Ethernet jack, HDMI,and audio jack protrude several millimeters beyond the indicated frames.

Instead of the traditional hard disk for conventional computers, the Raspberry Pi uses a microSD card. It must be prepared in advance - an operating system should be installed on it. If you have several flash cards you can use them one by one, having several isolated instances at your fingertips.

** MicroSD card not included. **

Only cards 4GB and up are supported. The recommended volume is at least 8 GB.
